Fun Facts About the Movie:
Although prison officials strongly discouraged it, Reynolds often sat with the prisoners during meal breaks and socialized with them.
When the film was released, Burt Reynolds arranged to have this film shown in maximum security prisons all over the US since the prisoners obviously couldn’t get to the theatres to see it.
While meeting some inmates after filming, one of the prisoners asked Burt Reynolds where he lived. When Reynolds asked why, the prisoner said he was a career criminal that was about to be released and he wanted to “finally burglarize someone who had money.”
Burt Reynolds turned down a lot of prime roles, including Han Solo in Star Wars, Edward Lewis in Pretty Woman, John McClane in Die Hard, and R.P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and James Bond (in 1969).
Reynolds attended Florida State University on a football scholarship as a halfback. However, he got injured and his football career was ruined.
In 1978 Reynolds was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Reynolds was an absolute Hollywood heartthrob and notorious for his mustache, and considered Hollywood’s top box office star for five years straight according to the annual Top Ten Money Making Stars Poll from 1978 through 1982.
