Fun Facts About the Movie:
If you didn’t know this already, this move is based off of real Marine Corps veteran Chris Kyle. Kyle and a friend unfortunately were both shot and killed before the movie premiered. Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield had taken veteran Eddie Ray Routh to a gun range to help him cope with his PTSD diagnosis. Routh was found guilty of both murders of Littlefield and Kyle and was sentenced to life without parole.
Kyle was one of the most lethal snipers in United States Military history, with a record-setting kill count of over 160 targets. However, Kyle once stated that he wished he could calculate the number of people he saved instead.
Bradley Cooper gained 40 pounds to prep for the role as Chris Kyle, eating 6,000 calories a day. He also worked on Kyle’s dialect for four hours every day.
Cooper initially bought rights to the film intending to only be a producer, with Chris Pratt being the star.
David O Russell and Steven Spielberg both considered directing the film, but Russell’s deal with Warner Bros fell through and Spielberg moved on
The infamous fake baby used was because the first (real) baby got a fever, and the second didn’t show up to set.
‘American Sniper’ was the highest grossing Best Picture Oscar Nominee of 2015.
